May 11—Thayne Nett
Thayne Nett, a senior at East High School, was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of May 11.
Nett was selected for his kindness, generosity, and positive attitude. He is known for being accepting of all people and for creating a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment at school–both inside and outside the classroom.
He maintains a high GPA while taking rigorous coursework and staying involved in a variety of school and community activities.
Nett is a member of the National Honor Society, Best Buddies and Anchored for Life. He serves as a qualified math tutor and is a member of the East golf team. In addition, he has served on the Pink Ribbon and Firecracker Run committees.
Following graduation, Nett will attend the University of Wyoming, where he plans to major in architectural engineering, combining his interests in math, science and art.
Nett selected Heather Tyrell as his favorite teacher for her encouragement and lasting impact on his academic journey. He credits her with inspiring him to pursue an engineering career and forhelping him see math as an engaging, problem-solving challenge.
