Layla Lowe, an eighth grade student at McCormick Junior High, was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of Sept. 28.

Lowe was selected for her positive attitude, responsibility, kindness and commitment to learning. She maintains high grades while enrolled in honors classes and pushes herself outside of her comfort zone to improve her skills.

Her school goals include maintaining good grades, improving her reading and writing skills and building strong relationships with her friends.

Lowe plays clarinet and violin and participates in yarn club and art club. Outside of school, she enjoys crocheting, drawing, sewing and making jewelry.

“Her strong character, commitment to learning and ability to lead by example make her a wonderful representative of our school community,” said McCormick science teacher Heather Boulger.

Lowe’s advice to other students is to try hard and not give up because someone is always rooting for you.

Lowe selected Quinton Bledsoe as her favorite teacher because of the way he explains lessons and makes learning engaging and accessible. She enjoys the hands-on projects in Bledsoe’s class and appreciates that he encourages students to read by keeping a bookshelf of books available to borrow.
