In Laramie County School District #1 we strive to develop and provide appropriate and reasonable support for all students. With that in mind, the expectation will be that all students, if medically and developmentally able, will manage their own toileting needs with limited verbal prompting. This includes:

★  Knowing when they need to use the restroom

★  Verbalizing or indicating that need

★  Handling clothing removal/replacement without adult assistance

★  Cleaning, wiping, and washing hands

The goal of this process is to provide a consistent environment where your student is missing as little instructional time as possible. We realize that with the unfamiliar environment your student may experience some accidents during the first few weeks of school. However, if accidents continue beyond the first month of school, increase, or your student is struggling with independent toileting, it may be necessary to work together on a plan for toileting success. Staff are not responsible for changing or cleaning students.

Some things that will help your child make a successful transition to toileting at school:

★ Wearing clothing that is easy for student to dress/undress self

★ Being comfortable with toilets that have automatic flushers

★ Create and follow a bathroom schedule prior to coming to school

Please always keep at least one clean, complete change of clothing for your student in their backpack and check it daily for soiled clothing.

For the health and safety of our staff and students, we request that students do not attend class wearing diapers or pull-ups. If there is a documented medical or physical condition, please let us know so we can discuss and implement proper accommodations for your child.

In the instance that your student is unable to manage cleaning and changing following an accident during the school day, the school nurse or designee will call the parent/guardian or the emergency contact to come in to complete cleaning the student.  You may choose to take the student home for proper, complete cleaning if you feel that would be better.
