LCSD1 Continuum of Services

LCSD1 provides a range of special education programs and services designed to support students with disabilities thus building a robust continuum of services for students. These offerings include both district-wide services and related support services.  All decisions for special education continuum of services are IEP Team decisions.  LCSD1 strives to offer a full continuum of services to meet all students’ needs. 

District-Wide Services

  • Child Find: Identifies children with disabilities in need of special education.

  • Intensive Autism Center-Based Programs: To provide comprehensive programming that addresses the diverse needs of our students in the areas of communication, social skills, academics, and personal living skills.

  • Intensive Cognitive Needs Center-Based Programs (LIFE/PALS):  The LIFE/PALS programs are individualized inclusive programs that focus on self-care, medical needs, and scaffolded age appropriate academic and social skills in a language rich environment for students to become active community members.  

  • Intensive Affective Needs Center-Based Program: To provide students with the social-emotional-behavioral skills needed to successfully, and meaningfully, engage in/benefit from their education in LCSD1.

  • Day Treatment Programs (EDT/ADT): Provides specialized learning opportunities for students with emotional or behavioral challenges who are unable to thrive in a general education setting.

  • CLAS (18-21 year-old) Transition Program: To promote student transition from the traditional school system to adult life. 

  • 18-21 year-old Transition Programs at Neighborhood High Schools: To promote student transition from the traditional school system to adult life and to continue working on transition goals in the IEP that require additional time for mastery.    

Related Services

  • Psychological Services: Conducts diagnostic evaluations and assesses students for educational disabilities.

  • Social Work Services: Assists students with school, home, or community issues that affect their school adjustment.

  • Audiology: Offers diagnostic services for students suspected of having hearing or auditory processing impairments.

  • Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Services: Provides instruction and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Speech and Language Therapy: Delivers remedial services for students with speech/language delays, fluency problems, or voice disorders.

  • Visual Impairment Services: Supports classroom teachers with accommodations and provides individualized instruction for students with visual impairments.

  • Occupational/Physical Therapy: Offers screening, evaluation, and intervention for students eligible for special education services.

  • Adaptive Physical Education Program: Provides developmentally appropriate activities, games, and sports for students who cannot safely or successfully participate in general physical education.

  • School Health Services: Promotes health and prevents disease and injury among district students.

  • Transition Services: Prepares special education students for the transition from school to work or post-secondary education and training.

Support Services

  • Homebound Instructional Services: Provides teachers for students who are absent from school for extended periods.

  • Specialized Transportation Services: Offers transportation options for students with disabilities who cannot use regular transportation.

These programs and services are designed to ensure that all students with disabilities receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally.
